Description
The Image
Location
I took this shot at Wat Lolei, a monastery about 30mn drive outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Very early every morning nuns go Wat Lolei to pray. However, on certain days of the year called Buddha days, the number of nuns who attend the morning prayer session at Wat Lolei reaches and exceeds 80. In addition, they are joined by local ladies as well as priests. The start arriving around 430am and as they gather around the monastery floor they start lighting their incense sticks and make offerings.
The prayer session lasts about 1 hour and is followed by a Buddhist monk who preaches to them.
Usually no foreigners are present, and the ones who actually get up early to be there are welcomed by the nuns, priests and monks with warm and friendly smiles. A very moving moment showing the devotion and faith of these people.
